Leadership Development for Professionals in Higher Education
Providing leadership development for professionals in higher education can take many forms. Development occurs through coaching, seminars, training, supervision, mentoring, and case management. Developing capacity for leadership in higher education requires on-going commitment to a learning process that serves both the individual and the institution. The process of developing leadership capacity begins with an understanding of your own values and motivations, as well as honing the ability for self-reflection and the ability to understand those around you. Leadership does not have to look a particular way, but is best developed through an understanding of who you are in relationship to the world, and in particular to the institution where you serve as a leader. As a result of achieving clarity about your values and the kind of leader you desire to be, you are able to create more authentic relationships with those around you and lead with integrity. My own experience for developing leadership capacity and helping others achieve this has informed how I develop training workshops for administrators, student leadership, and staff. I have developed and facilitated curricula for peer advisors, dialogue facilitators, student organization leaders, management and administrative staff, and university leadership. I recently completed the development of a curriculum for a year-long management leadership program for staff in the Division of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. I also provide on-going strategic leadership and management coaching on an individual basis, to support the specific needs of leaders serving in higher education.
